Interior Trends for 2020

1 comment by House of Ekam

People have their own take on following trends but just like fashion, I believe Interior Trends are a way of telling where the world is headed. Its completely upto you to include them in your lives but some home loving never hurt anybody. Here is our take on the home and living trends/musings for this year. Hope you have a fun read.

  1. Old with the new

Have a vintage tea cup or the old sewing machine? Please don’t throw it. Mixing old with the new is the trend we are looking forward to. Think products that tell a story be it an old art piece or your grandmother’s saree turned into curtains. Bringing vintage into your homes is a beautiful way to incorporate a part of your living heritage

       2. Eco-friendly is the way forward
A necessity more than a trend, thank god this spin with sustainability has taken a fashionable road. Be it your cane lamps, rattan beds, grass baskets or jute planters. Accentuate your living with a jute rug or adorn your wall in a rattan mirror. Trendy, safe for mother earth and unique then it be needs to be in your homes.

  1. Mix of minimalism and maximalism

I have always been a strong advocate for minimalism but now being open to small pockets of maximalism too. Pattern bombing the wall but having a neutral sofa- there is your hybrid. Try a heavy floral headboard but a simple upholstered bed. It doesn’t all have to be prints on print or solids on solids. Have a little fun with your homes and give it your shake

  1. Colors and Tie Dye

With white ruling a majority of last year, its time to bring unicorns and tie dye into your homes. With fashion already seeing a huge influx of tie dye and rainbow, home will not be left behind. A tie dye curtain or a rainbow marble duvet, home furnishings will be dominated by this. Even your everyday white kitchens which were a huge hit will see shift with bold coloured cabinets and funky wallpapers to get some colour in

  1. Wallpaper is back

Wallpapers are SO back! Think chintz, abstract, botanicals, animals even block prints.

Your wall needs to do the talking now more than ever. Carefully illustrated walls with a story behind the art against a fiddle leaf tree alongside a grey sofa. Imagining what a stunning space will that be :)

  1. Plants and more plants

Plants are going no where anytime soon and thank god for that. With fiddle leaf and monstera dominating your homes last year, this year should be for more simpler ones like olive or a sage tree or the cheaper versions of this.

But fret not, any plant is good. Be it a basil pot sitting on your dining table waiting to be plucked to be put into your pasta or areca palm giving a tropical vibe to your living room. Plants are a constant trend and deserve all the love

Infact after a little research I found that Rajasthan is now the hub of olive oil production in India and the real tree is also available on online nursery. I never thought they would be but I am always amazed. Secondly a lot of interior designers in the west are using faux ones which also might be a great idea if you know you cant keep it alive.

  1. Stained Glass

An art form well forgotten but we at House Of Ekam expect it to be trending very soon. Small stained glass gift items or funky glass windows or even your lamps, stained glass is an vintage art for a lot but a green banana leaf tree in stain glass with pink bananas hanging against your usual kitchen window. Wouldn’t it look so pretty?

Thats it folks. There are so many other things that we feel are trending or might be a hit in 2020 but more on that later. Hope you like the blog. Please leave us a comment.

Stay safe!

Love,

T
