Introducing House Of Ekam's first-ever collection of handwoven Ikat curtains and cushion covers—a collection over three months in the making, born from countless hours of design exploration, artisan collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to preserving one of India's most intricate weaving traditions.
Unlike printed textiles, Ikat is created long before the loom begins its work. Every design starts with meticulous planning, where patterns are mathematically calculated and mapped onto individual yarns. Once the design is finalised, the cotton yarns are carefully bound with black rubber to resist the dye, ensuring only the intended sections absorb colour. This painstaking dyeing process alone takes 7–8 days, with each stage requiring precision to ensure the woven pattern emerges exactly as envisioned.
Only after the yarns have been dyed can weaving begin. Crafted using 100% cotton yarns, each artisan weaves approximately 5–7 metres of fabric in a single day, with more intricate patterns requiring even more time and skill. The beauty of Ikat lies in this extraordinary process—where every thread must align perfectly to reveal its signature blurred yet beautifully defined motifs.
Our collection has been handwoven across multiple artisan homes in villages located nearly 120 kilometres from Hyderabad, where generations of weavers continue to practise this remarkable craft on traditional handlooms. The subtle variations in weave, colour, and texture are not imperfections but treasured marks of handmade craftsmanship, making every piece uniquely yours.
