Lambani - A New Chapter in Handcrafted Art

A centuries-old nomadic craft, reimagined by House Of Ekam.

Our Lambani collection is a celebration of embroidery made slowly, patiently and entirely by hand. Each piece comes to life stitch by stitch, with artisans building intricate patterns through hours of meticulous needlework. 

Traditionally practiced by the Lambani community, a nomadic community spread across parts of India, Lambani embroidery is known for its exuberant colours, intricate geometric patterns and distinctive use of mirrors, beads and embellishments. While often grouped alongside other Indian embroideries, Lambani has a visual language of its own-rooted in the nomadic lifestyle and traditions of the community, and distinctly different from the embroidery traditions of Kutch.

For this collection, House Of Ekam brings a contemporary interpretation to this age-old craft. We have intentionally moved away from the traditional use of mirrors, allowing the embroidery itself to take centre stage. The texture, rhythm and density of the stitches become the embellishment, giving each artwork a more refined and modern expression while retaining the soul of Lambani.

At the heart of the collection is red, a colour deeply associated with Lambani craft and culture. Rich, warm and unmistakable, red brings together the boldness of the traditional craft with the contemporary aesthetic of House Of Ekam.

Every artwork is a labour of patience. There are no shortcuts to handmade embroidery; every motif is formed by hand, every stitch placed individually, and every finished piece carries subtle variations that make it truly one of a kind.

With Lambani, we begin a new chapter in the House Of Ekam journey-one that continues our exploration of India's diverse textile and craft traditions, while finding new ways to bring them into contemporary homes.
